Media General Names New Broadcast CRO

Former Turner Broadcasting ad sales chief Julio Marenghi will be responsible for the development and execution of all advertising sales plans for Media General’s 71 television stations in 48 U.S. markets.

Media General Inc. today appointed Julio Marenghi chief revenue officer-broadcast operations.

Marenghi is a broadcast and cable executive with more than 30 years of experience managing large-scale sales organizations, developing and executing revenue growth strategies and expanding market share for some of the nation’s largest broadcast groups.

In his new role, effective immediately, Marenghi will be responsible for the development and execution of all advertising sales plans for Media General’s 71 television stations in 48 U.S. markets. In addition, he will oversee the local sales teams and national rep firms and launch best-in-class marketing solutions.

Marenghi will work closely with Jamie Elden, Media general’s chief revenue officer for its digital business, to deliver advertising solutions that are connected across all screens. He will be based out of the company’s New York office and report directly to Deb McDermott, SVP-COO.

Marenghi formerly was president, ad sales for Tribune Broadcasting, where he led local, national and digital sales operations and created an industry-leading solution for programmatic buying through the Magna Consortium.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

He was promoted to president of sales after serving as president of WGN America.

Prior to joining Tribune Broadcasting, he held leadership roles at CBS Television Stations, including president of broadcast ad sales, president and general manager of WBZ-WSBK Boston, and sales manager of WNBC New York.

He started his sales career at KGO San Francisco.

Marenghi also founded District Six Media Consulting in 2014, which provided advertising sales consultation with an emphasis on growing spot television revenue through unwired networks and regionals to meet advertisers’ needs.
