Michelle Donaldson To Be New KOB GM

Hubbard Broadcasting promotes the news director of its Albuquerque NBC affiliate to succeed the retiring Mike Burgess next month.

Tuesday, in an all-station meeting, Rob Hubbard, president of Hubbard Broadcasting, and Mike Burgess, current VP-GM of the company’s NBC affiliate KOB Albuquerque, N.M. (DMA 46), appointed Michelle Donaldson the station’s new general manager.

The appointment will be effective Dec. 26 when Burgess retires.

“After Hubbard’s nationwide search, it’s nice to know the best candidate was one of our own,” Burgess said. “Michelle’s knowledge of our business and of the ever-important mission of covering New Mexico news, coupled with a great love of this state’s communities make it a win-win decision. I have watched her in the challenging capacity of news director and can retire knowing the station I have loved and led for 25 years is in the best hands possible.”

Donaldson is no stranger to KOB, where she has been news director since September 2013, and no stranger to Albuquerque where she spent nearly nine years as KRQE Albuquerque’s assistant news director and then news director.

She left New Mexico to be news director at KPHO Phoenix, where she managed a 72-person news department until her return four years ago. Donaldson worked in Detroit for the 15 years prior to the Southwest, first for WJR-AM and then WXYZ-TV television.

Burgess came to KOB in 1993 after working for the Hubbards in Minnesota.
