WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

Miley Cyrus Twerks, Entertainment Mags Soar

Coverage of her VMA performance boosts all the top magazines in the week ending Sept. 1. Dr. Phil takes the top talk slot, while Judge Judy retains the first-run leadership crown.

Ratings for every one of the syndicated magazines, except Dish Nation, jumped in the week ending Sept. 1 amid widespread coverage of Miley Cyrus’ controversial twerking performance at the VMAs and the Michael Douglas-Catherine Zeta-Jones separation after 13 years of marriage.

Access Hollywood had the biggest week-to-week improvement, while Extra was up the most from last year at this time. In weekly magazine action OMG Insider Weekend surged 29% from the prior session to its highest numbers since July.

The Labor Day weekend appeared to alter viewing patterns, as did the fourth and final week of the Time Warner Cable-CBS blackout. In addition, some shows were preempted for the Aug. 28 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

Dr. Phil was in repeats all week along with many other daytime shows, but still topped the talkers. However, Maury, Jerry Springer and The Doctors were the only chat fests with week-to-week gains.

Judge Judy, which was all repeats, was the top-rated show in all of first-run syndication for the 18th consecutive week.

In the metered markets yesterday, while primetime schedules were scrambled by the president’s address to the nation on Syria and primary election coverage in New York, new latenight talker Arsenio dipped to a two-day average of 1.7 rating/4 share, but that was still up 70% from its year-ago time periods and up 13% from its lead-ins. Arsenio also continued to lead the latenight talk shows among adults 18-49 after two days and tied Jay Leno for first place among adults 25-54.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In daytime, newcomer  Bethenny dropped to a 1.1/3 average after two days, which was down 8% from year-ago time periods and down 13% from its lead-ins.
