WEEKLY SYNDICATED RATINGS ROUNDUP

More Daylight Means Fewer Syndie Viewers

The first week of Daylight Saving Time, coupled with preemptions for pope coverage, sent ratings tumbling for many shows. Among the exceptions to the downturn were Wendy Williams (which posted a 20% week-to-week gain), Dish Nation (up 10%), Baggage (up 9%) and several off-net weekly hours.

The session ending March 17 marked the first week of Daylight Saving Time and later sunsets always coincide with lower ratings since more daylight keeps more people outdoors and away from their sets.

Making matters even worse for syndicated ratings were heavy preemptions for coverage of the new pope’s election on March 13.

Not surprisingly, most shows were down from the week before with many hitting new season lows.

On the positive side:

  • Dr. Phil was the talk leader in both households and women 25-54 with several reruns, improving 8% from last year despite dipping 10% from the week before.
  • Steve Wilkos grew 17% from the same week a year ago.
  • The Doctors’ March 11 interview with Valerie Harper was up 14% from the prior week to a 1.6 and was the show’s highest rated non-sweep episode of the season.
  • Wendy Williams was the only talker up, both week to week and year to year, advancing 20% in both measures.
  • In access, newcomer Dish Nation was the only magazine strip up week to week (it gained 10%), notching a new season high 1.1.
  • The new OMG Insider’s companion show OMG Insider Weekend increased 13% from the week before.

In the household rating rankings that follow, * indicates a new season high rating; ** indicates a new season low; % change is from the previous week; NC indicates no change from the previous week.
