DMAS 151 & 203

Morgan Murphy Buying 6 Saga Stations

It’s adding KOAM Joplin, Mo.; and in Victoria, Texas, KAVU, KMOL, KXTS, KUNU and KVTX. In addition, under operating agreements, it will run KFJX Pittsburg, Kan., and KVCT Victoria.

Morgan Murphy Media has reached an agreement to acquire TV stations in two markets from Saga Communications.

They are Joplin, Mo.-Pittsburg, Kan. (DMA 151), where MMM is adding KOAM (CBS), and Victoria, Texas (DMA 203), where it’s getting KAVU (ABC), KMOL-LD (NBC), KXTS-LD (CBS), KUNU-LD (Univision), KVTX-LP (Telemundo) and CrossroadsToday.com.

At the same time, the licenses and other assets of KFJX (Fox), Pittsburg and KVCT (Fox), Victoria, now owned by Surtsey Media, will be acquired by subsidiaries of SagamoreHill Broadcasting, which will enter into operating agreements with subsidiaries of Morgan Murphy.

The terms of the deal were not released.

“We are thrilled to grow our family of stations in these two markets,” said Elizabeth Murphy Burns, president-CEO of Morgan Murphy Media. “These stations are the perfect fit with our company because of their strong foundation of market leadership and community service.”

MMM said “this acquisition fits with the company’s growth strategy of expanding into markets where it can hold and grow a leadership position across a multitude of platforms.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Pending regulatory approval, the deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2017.

Not sure I get this rationale. These stations made good predictable money, sometimes their profits were the best part of a Saga quarterly report.. Radio competes with 1,000s of audio sources because a audio file is darn small.

TV is different & advent of ATSC3 will make TV even stronger. They dominated period in Victoria Texas.

TV may not have been Ed Christian’s wheel house but it was his profit generator for sure !!!

We will see !!!
