Chris McCarthy has been named general manager of Logo TV, the Viacom television channel that aims to serve the LGBT community.

Since late last year, McCarthy has helped MTV President Stephen Friedman manage Logo on an interim basis. Now McCarthy will be responsible for all of Logo’s creative functions and business dealings.

Viacom made the announcement Wednesday.

Since 2010, McCarthy has served as general manager of two other channels: MTV2 and mtvU. He will continue to run those two channels as well.

“Chris has helped guide our channels to ratings and creative highs,” Friedman said in a statement. “His insight, creativity and business acumen have made an indelible impact, and I’m thrilled to partner with him to drive the next chapter in Logo TV’s evolution.”

Logo’s ratings have increased nearly 20% during the last year, according to Viacom, and the channel is on track to turn in a record year in terms of viewership.

In addition to off-network reruns, the channel has been relying on original programming, including “Trailblazers” and “Secret Guide to Fabulous.” A new documentary debuts Friday called “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word.”

MTV2 also has improved its ratings performance with such originals as “Guy Code” and “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild N’ Out.”
