Multicam Timecode Sync Comes To GoPro

Broadcasters, sports video producers and others in the media and entertainment industry who rely on tiny GoPro cameras for specialty applications have another tool in their production arsenal to make the cameras even more usable, especially when it comes to multi-camera shoots.

At this week’s NAB Show, Timecode Systems introduced SyncBac, an equally tiny timecode generator that fits on the back of GoPro HERO Black and Silver cameras.

“It is exactly the same size as their [GoPro’s] traditional back packs,” says Timecode Systems CEO Paul Scurrell, “which means it fits in all of their standard housings.”

The timecode generator inserts accurate timecode into the MP4 video shot with the cameras.

As a result, the tiny cameras can easily be synced with each other as well as with high-dollar professional cameras.

In the company’s booth (C2221), Timecode Systems is showing a demo of a multi-camera shoot of a trick bartender ala Tom Cruise in Cocktail. Multiple GoPro cameras were used as well as a higher end camera to acquire the footage.

Thanks to the timecode, source material from each camera is automatically synced in nonlinear editing packages rather than requiring all of the sources to be synced manually in post.

Timecode Systems also showed the new timecode generator for the GoPro cameras being used with its Pulse wireless link to provide two-way status and metadata links.
