DSI RF Systems Inc., a provider of services and hardware development for the broadcast industry for over 25 years, has introduced its NewsShark transmission system for ENG.

The NewsShark system is a two and-a-half pound encoder unit that snaps on the back of most popular camera mounts — so a station can use the batteries they’ve already invested in — and a single rack-unit decoder.  The compact encoder employs a user selectable cellular /Wi-Fi transmission system with dual IFB and an internal battery that keeps the unit transmitting even when hot-swapping external power packs. The user interface screen is designed to permit visibility in both day and night environments.

The NewsShark operates in a cellular or Wi-Fi environment, which means there are no restrictions on distance between the encoder and decoder, so live coverage distribution options are limitless, without the use of expensive satellite time.

The encoder can be managed and configured from either the encoder or decoder, behaving as a true grab-n-go device.  This ensures that time to deployment is minimal and valuable field time is utilized covering the news instead of adjusting the hardware, the company says.

When wireless network conditions vary, the NewsShark’s Robustivity feature adjusts multiple transmission parameters allowing the best possible picture that current conditions will allow.  And once a news truck, equipped with a NewsShark decoder, arrives on the scene, the NewsShark system can be used as an RPU system via a local Wi-Fi connection, bringing a feed of high-quality video to the truck.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Complete NewsShark encoder/decoder systems start at less than $18,000.
