NBC Station Sites Feature Investigative News

Seven stations expand their websites to highlight local investigative reporting.

The NBC Owned Television Stations today announced that it will significantly increase the focus on local investigative reporting by creating dedicated investigative reporting sections on its station websites.

NBC stations in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, Dallas-Fort Worth and Connecticut will feature in-depth stories that combine exclusive video with digital features. Investigative sections will be added to additional NBC owned stations in the weeks ahead.

“Investing in local, investigative reporting has been a priority, and we’re pleased that these hard-hitting stories will be available to viewers in a more in-depth way on the station websites,” said Valari Staab, president of NBC Owned Television Stations. “This continued emphasis on local reporting deepens our strong commitment to our communities.”

The new sections add embedded documents, infographics, maps and social media elements to the investigative video presented on air, allowing the stations to offer additional and interactive information with every story.

As an example, NBC cited a story from NBC Chicago, in partnership with ProPublica, that uncovered new data showing that where a patient gets dialysis treatment might play an important role in his/her risk of infection. To complement the television story, NBCChicago.com added a map detailing how each center rated, related sidebars, downloadable documents and useful links. By using the additional layers of this story, viewers are able to take action.

The new investigative sections are spotlighted on the homepage and on the main navigation menu of the local news websites. Visitors to the site can find additional information for stories they see on air, along with biographies of the investigative reporters.
