NBC To Launch ‘Freshman Year Experience’

The multiplatform news program documents student transition from high school to college with original videos and content.

NBC News and Discover Student Loans today launched The Freshman Year Experience, a multiplatform initiative documenting 10 students transitioning from high school to college across the country. The Freshman Year Experience aims to clarify the complicated issues faced by both parents and students — from securing financial aid and choosing a college that best meets their needs to navigating the first days away from home.

Over the course of 2015, NBC News will follow 10 high school students as they prepare for new chapters at college. To view The Freshman Year Experience content, visit: NBCNews.com.

As part of Discover Student Loans-sponsored The Freshman Year Experience, each student will share monthly video reports on their experiences during this important transition, highlighting decisions including which college to attend, which payment plan best fits their needs, what supplies are needed for first semester classes and the overall emotional experience. Additionally, The Freshman Year Experience content program will feature original videos created and produced by NBC News, as well as editorial content and interactive platforms for students and parents.

“As we quickly approach the time for high school graduations across the country, The Freshman Year Experience will help prospective college students and their parents navigate this pivotal time in their life — both financially and psychologically,” said Lou Tosto, SVP, news digital group advertising sales, NBCUniversal. “We are excited to work with Discover Student Loans on this increasingly relevant initiative to educate our community with a robust slate of original digital video and editorial content.”

All Freshman Year Experience content will be available on NBCNews.com and promoted on social platforms, Today.com and CNBC.com.
