NBC’s Greenblatt Plots Network’s Future

Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt counts on "bigger, louder, more event-like" shows to fuel network's revival.

Bob Greenblatt, NBC’s entertainment chief, has been rolling out an agressive slate of scripted series since the start of the year to further the network’s rise in popularity.

The new programming — including the hijack drama Crisis the supernatural thriller Believe, both of which debuted Sunday night — are part of Greenblatt’s effort to secure NBC’s current position as the No. 1 Big Four network among 18-49 year olds. The Tuesday night comedies About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher are also in the lineup.

Greenblatt credits hits including Blacklist and The Voice will propelling the network’s position following nearly a decade in the doldrums. But Greenblatt has made similar headway before, only to see it, in his words, “all go down the toilet.”
