WEEKLY SYNDICATED RATINGS ROUNDUP

NCAA Bounces Syndie Ratings Again

In a mostly flat or down week, standouts include five talk shows, Access Hollywood, Judge Judy, Everybody Loves Raymond and House compared to the previous week.

With the start of the big holiday weekend and the higher stakes rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament preempting programs on CBS affiliates, there were few gainers among syndicated shows in the week ending March 31. In fact, only five out of the 17 talk shows were up week to week.

On the positive side, Dr. Phil regained the talk lead and biggest increase of any strip in syndication even though it was still in repeats for part of the frame. Phil also surged 23% in the demo and topped the field among women 25-54.

The other talkers with significant week-to-week improvement were Ellen, The Doctors, Wendy Williams and Steve Harvey.

The only court show on the upswing was leader Judge Judy, while Access Hollywood was the only access magazine strip to grow from the week, although Extra’s companion show, Extra Weekend, rose 17% despite more than a dozen basketball preemptions.

The big news in the metered markets yesterday, April 8, was the Mary Tyler Moore Show reunion on Katie, which averaged 2.2 rating/7 share, equaling the show’s highest share of audience since its premiere. The program surged 38% from the Monday before and increased 16% from Katie’s season-to date average. The reunion featured original cast members Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Betty White, Georgia Engel and, of course, Moore.

In the household rating rankings that follow, * indicates a new season high rating; ** indicates a new season low; % change is from the previous week; NC indicates no change from the previous week.
