NECN Launches 9 P.M. Newscast

NECN, New England’s regional news network has debuted The Only News at Nine, targeting viewers who are early to bed and early to rise. The Only News at Nine anchored by Latoyia Edwards and John Daly, features chief meteorologist Matt Noyes, in-depth coverage of the day’s top news, political and business stories, sports from Comcast SportsNet and exclusive weekly news features from 9 to 10 p.m.

NECN’s 9 p.m. newscast became the region’s only early prime newscast this fall when WSBK Boston became a MyNetworkTV affiliate and moved its evening news to 10 p.m.

“Viewers who want a 9 p.m. newscast have not been left without early primetime news,” said Bill Bridgen, NECN executive vice president and general manager. “The opportunity to provide the region’s only 9 p.m. newscast fits perfectly with our strategy as we were the first to launch a 4:30 a.m. newscast. We believe that the viewer who watches early morning news is the viewer who wants and needs an early primetime newscast.”

Using the synergies between NECN’s early morning and early prime news, NECN will keep its morning viewership up-to-date on The Only News at Nine’s coverage with cut-ins from Latoyia Edwards beginning each morning at 4:30 a.m.

Comcast-owned NECN serves more than 3.7 million homes in more than 1,000 cities and towns throughout all six New England states.
