New GM, News Director At WTKR-WGNT

At the Norfolk, Va., CBS-CW duopoly owned by Dreamcatcher Broadcasting and operated by Tribune, Skip Valet becomes VP-GM, while Ryan Minnaugh is named news director.

Dreamcatcher Broadcasting-owned WTKR (CBS) and WGNT (CW) Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, Va. (DMA 42), today named Skip Valet VP-general manager and appointed Ryan Minnaugh news director. Tribune Broadcasting operates WTKR-WGNT under a shared services agreement.

Valet, who comes on board on Nov. 30, will oversee all aspects of the stations, including strategic planning and day-to-day operations. He is a veteran station leader, coming from WKMG Orlando, Fla., where during his tenure as news director, the station grew to become first or second in all of its newscasts. As general manager he led efforts to develop a digital strategy to bolster the station’s reach.

Valet has also been VP-news director at KPRC Houston; VP-news director at WKMG Orlando; and News Director at WJXT Jacksonville, Fla.

Ryan Minnaugh was most recently assistant news director at WXIN-WTTV, Tribune Broadcasting’s Fox-CBS duopoly in Indianapolis, a position he has held since 2012. While at WTTV, Minnaugh was integral in the station’s conversion to a CBS affiliate.

Before that, he was executive producer of Tribune’s KDVR-KWGN Denver since 2010, where he oversaw editorial content for four afternoon/evening shows.  

Prior to his tenure at Tribune, Minnaugh held several leadership positions at WOIO Cleveland. He also served as a News Associate and Writer at CNBC.

Minnuagh will assume his new duties in Norfolk on Dec. 7, reporting to Valet.
