New Rohde & Schwarz Low-Power Transmitter

Rohde & Schwarz extends its energy-efficient R&S Tx9 transmitter generation with low-power UHF transmitters that support the DVB-T, DVB-T2 and ISDB-Tb digital standards.

The company says its new R&S TLU9 family “considerably reduces operating expense, while delivering the highest availability and signal quality.”

The air-cooled R&S TLU9 with output powers from 1 W to 200 W transmitter is equipped with an integrated exciter backup battery. With the battery, mains voltage interruptions of up to 10 seconds do not result in a reboot of the transmitter, keeping off-the-air time to a minimum. The R&S TLU9 offers unparalleled availability and smooth operation.

Most components can be easily replaced by the customer. Service personnel can perform troubleshooting on site quickly and easily without requiring the transmitter to be returned to the manufacturer. This is possible, R&S says, because defective components can be replaced with minimum calibration and test effort. The R&S TLU9 thus substantially reduces costs. In addition, the R&S TLU9 shares components with other transmitters of the R&S Tx9 generation, simplifying spare parts handling if transmitters from multiple R&S Tx9 families are used.

The ultra-compact low-power transmitter comes with numerous features, including TSoIP functionality (transport stream over IP), adaptive digital predistortion and DVB-T to DVB-T2 switchover at the press of a button. Another highlight is the R&S TLU9 optioning system, which makes it possible to integrate multiple optional hardware components such as a satellite receiver, DVB-T or DVB-T2 receiver or components for redundancy configurations within the transmitter housing. This eliminates the need for additional equipment, saving space and cost and simplifying operation. Thanks to the transmitter’s modular design, customized solutions can be created.

The R&S TLU9 cuts energy expense by up to 25%, R&S says, a major advantage since broadcast networks often comprise a large number of low-power transmitters. This reduces total cost of ownership during a system’s lifetime. Network operators also benefit from simple installation through adaptive digital predistortion and an intuitive graphical user interface.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

The new R&S TLU9 low-power UHF transmitters with output powers from 1 W to 200 W are available now from Rohde & Schwarz. They enhance the R&S Tx9 transmitter family that is already available in all power classes. Same as the other members of this family, the R&S TLU9 can be delivered on short notice, even if ordered in large quantities.
