LETTER FROM THE PUBLISHER

NewsTECHForum Will Shine A Spotlight On Elections, Digital And Cutting-Edge Workflows

The third annual NewsTECHForum, which gets underway today, Dec. 14, has a more digital flavor than in the past, with sessions on Targeting Millennials, Story-Centric Workflow and News Everywhere. The 2016 elections will play a big role, in a keynote interview with CBS News President David Rhodes and sessions on Augmented Reality and Covering the Races and Election Night.

Two years ago TVNewsCheck and SVG launched NewsTECHForum, a conference designed to give news and technology executives a break from the action to talk about the challenges specific to their sector of the television industry.

This year’s program, set to unfold today and tomorrow, Dec. 14-15, at the New York Hilton, is bigger than ever, spanning a half day Monday and a full day Tuesday. It is also more digital, with sessions on Targeting Millennials, Story-Centric Workflow and News Everywhere.

The 2016 elections loom large and NewsTECHForum will reflect that, with a keynote interview with CBS News President David Rhodes on Monday and sessions on Augmented Reality and Covering the Races, Covering Election Night on Tuesday.

Spectrum, much in the news these days, finds its way into our program in a Monday session on ENG, where speakers will address, among other issues, the Department of Defense’s desire to reclaim spectrum currently used for newsgathering in the field. Another Monday session will update executives on the government’s efforts to grab spectrum used for wireless mics, intercoms and other devices critical to broadcasting from breaking news or the sports field.

Spectrum takes center stage during Tuesday morning’s keynote address, when Anne Schelle, managing director of the Pearl TV consortium, will talk about ATSC 3.0 and other new developments that could change dramatically the way news is distributed to and monetized mobile devices.

In addition to gathering news and technology executives from the networks and station groups, NewsTECHForum also puts the news technology community in touch with 2,000 of their peers in sports production. The conference is co-located with the SVG Summit, a two-day event that attracts leaders in sports broadcasting and production and features a technology showcase with more than 60 companies participating.
