Sixty stations are potentially affected as the station group and satellite distributor have yet to reach a new distribution agreement.
Nexstar: Dish Subs May Lose Stations Friday
Nexstar Broadcasting Group said Thursday evening that Dish Network subscribers in 60 markets are at risk of its stations at 11:59 p.m. ET tomorrow night since the satellite service has yet to reach a new distribution agreement allowing Dish to continue to air Nexstar’s stations. For over a month, Nexstar said, it has been negotiating in good faith to establish a mutually agreeable contract with Dish.
Nexstar said it has established a long-term record of completing hundreds of agreements with cable, satellite providers and telecom companies for the carriage of its programming and “is proud of the fact that it has had no material service interruptions related to distribution agreements since 2005.”
Nexstar added that it “regrets that Dish Network is willing to hold its paying subscribers hostage because it won’t agree to fair and reasonable terms for viewers’ favorite programming.”
The company added: “While Nexstar remains hopeful that a resolution can be reached today, should Dish Network fail to come to terms with Nexstar, Nexstar intends to actively educate consumers in affected markets on how they can continue to receive their favorite network programming, in-depth local news, other content and programming relevant to their communities, and critical updates in times of emergencies.”

Cable and satellite subscribers are wise to always have a backup plan to receive their local TV stations if their payTV provider or electric company has an outage. Have a battery powered TV and appropriate antenna ready to keep informed during weather (or other) emergencies. Of course, the antenna can also be hooked to a regular TV if the power is not interrupted as well as to view real HDTV and channels that may not be distributed by the local cable system.

And do not forget to buy several pallets of batteries for replacing those batteries every 1.5 hours.

Or, better yet, a 12V adapter cord which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket in your car or on another backup power source.
