Nexstar Names Dir. Of Local Content In East

Former news director Christopher Berg will to lead cross-platform content development in Nexstar’s West region markets. Jerry Walsh has the same responsibilities for the company’s Eastern markets.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group has named Christopher R. Berg director of local content development-West, a new position at the company. The appointment is effective March 20, and Berg will report directly to Blake Russell, Nexstar’s SVP of station operations.

In his new role, Berg will work with Nexstar’s operations and station management teams responsible for the company’s growing portfolio of stations west of the Mississippi river to create local content for its on-air and digital platforms.

Berg will also be working across the organization with news directors and the company’s digital media teams on local broadcast news products and brands, Web and mobile content concepts, and social media engagement initiatives. Additionally, he will be responsible for creating and executing local content strategies to increase local viewership.

Berg’s news management leadership experience extends across four television stations in three markets over 18 years. He most recently was the assistant news director of WFAA Dallas. Prior to that, Berg was news director of KSTP St. Paul-Minneapolis and  KOB-KASA Albuquerque, N.M.

Since October 2011, Jerry Walsh has been serving as the director of local content development on behalf of the entire Nexstar organization. With the appointment of Berg, Walsh will now serve as the director of local content development-East.
