Nexstar Sets Multiplatform Election Coverage

The group owner offered linked broadcast, e-media and mobile coverage of election night in its 30 news-producing markets.

Nexstar Broadcasting Group is featuring a new linked multi-platform initiative that combines the resources of its broadcast and online divisions to deliver shared local, regional, state-wide and national election coverage to communities across the 30 news producing markets it serves.

The initiative leverages Nexstar’s regional news footprint and leading local news resources to bring television viewers as well as online and mobile app users detailed local and regional content related to the 2010 elections.

Nexstar’s, cross-platform election night initiative will bring continuous updates on key gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races and in-depth national and regional election coverage on Nexstar stations and websites.  Programming will include live feeds from various campaign headquarters across the country; interviews with candidates, key political figures, analysts and community members; and continuous updates on the latest election results.

Complementing the on-air and online coverage, Nexstar’s mobile platform will deliver up-to the minute election results to smartphones and other wireless hand-held devices.  Nexstar’s election coverage strategy allows each station to carry local coverage of breaking news events as well as a “richer multi-dimensional national pulse” before, during and after election night, including access to stories from across the country and video clips from key U.S. Senate and congressional races.

Brian Jones, Nexstar COO, commented: “Election 2010 promises to be pivotal in the future direction and policies of our local, state and national leadership and government. In many Nexstar markets there are record levels of partisanship leading to highly contested elections and there are also several important issues up for decision in our markets. Nexstar’s cross platform election night coverage will give viewers and online and mobile users their choice of where and how they access the latest news on these key races and the initiative to broadly expand our coverage reflects our commitment to providing the local markets that we serve with unrivalled news coverage.”
