Nielsen: 119.6M U.S.TV Homes For 2017-18

The number of persons age 2 and older in U.S. TV households is estimated to be 304.5 million, which represents a 0.9% increase from last year. Increases in U.S. Hispanic, black and Asian households were also seen, due to estimated increases in population growth and TV penetration.

According to Nielsen’s just-released National Television Household Universe Estimates, there are 119.6 million TV homes in the U.S. for the 2017-18 TV season.

The number of persons age 2 and older in U.S. TV households is estimated to be 304.5 million, which represents a 0.9% increase from last year. Increases in U.S. Hispanic, black and Asian households were also seen, due to estimated increases in population growth and TV penetration.

Nielsen uses U.S. Census Bureau, combined with information from the national TV panel, to arrive at Advance TV Universe Estimates in early May. It then distributes final Universe Estimates before the start of each TV season.

The 2018 National Universe Estimates reflect real changes in population since last year and updated TV penetration levels, differentially calculated for qualifying market break and age/sex demographic categories.

Additionally, the percentage of total U.S. homes with televisions receiving traditional TV signals via broadcast, cable, DBS or telco, or via a broadband Internet connection connected to a TV set is currently at 96.5%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points from last year’s estimate.

Nielsen applies TV penetrations to convert the total household and population estimates to TV households and persons therein. The 2018 TV penetration for U.S. households was estimated based on data collected during the recruitment of homes for Nielsen’s People Meter panel. Nielsen’s national definition of a TV household states that homes must have at least one operable TV/monitor with the ability to deliver video via traditional means of antennae, cable set-top-box or satellite receiver and/or with a broadband connection.

That’s the entire population. Statistically there are multiple persons living in each household – used to be 2.4, maybe that’s changed. 119,600,000 x 2.4 = 287,040,000 that’s about 88 % of the population. That leaves 12% of the population as not being TV households (???) – which doesn’t fit with numbers in the article (though perhaps we’re looking at different population figures, definitions, etc. …)

yet I never found any interesting article like yours.

It’s lovely price enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made
good content as you did, the net shall be
a lot more helpful than ever before.
