Many government officials and bureaucrats love believing the notion that owning a TV station is a “license to print money” (it fits in with their own hostility toward broadcasters). But these clips show stations that are understaffed (where are the floor managers to cue the talent?) and with employees who are either underpaid or under qualified. While a few stations in the top markets do well, most simply cannot afford the top talent or maintain an adequate number of staff to run operations. Television broadcasters need a helping hand from the FCC and legislators, not hamstringing.
