Football Bests World Series Game Five

A Week 8 NFL matchup easily beat out a pivotal MLB World Series Game 5 last night according to Nielsen numbers.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football scored a 4.2 in viewers 18-49, and a 17 share overall, powering the network to the number-one spot last evening. Fox finished in second place, in spite of its World Series showcase, with a 2.0/8 average. Still, Sunday Night Football viewership of the Chiefs versus Packers, with an overall 5.1, was down 12% from last week’s Cowboys-Eagles showdown of division rivals. NBC’s Football Night in America was up, but just a tenth, to 2.1, while the pre-game show was also down 12%, at 4.3. Fox’s MLB pre-game saw a 1.2, with game five of the Astros-Nationals getting a 2.4, up from the 2.1 game four earned on Saturday.

Rounding out the top three, CBS scored a 1.6/7 average, while fourth-place ABC averaged a 0.6/2. CBS’s 60 Minutes got a 2.3, boosted by a strong Patriots-Browns NFL lead-in. God Friended Me boasted a 50% uptick to 0.9. NCIS: Los Angeles remained flat at 0.7 and Madam Secretary culled a 0.5, up 25% from last week. The ABC special It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown did a 0.7 and Kids Say the Darndest Things retained a 0.6. Shark Tank fell to 0.5, down 17% from last week, and The Rookie scored an even 0.6.

Telemundo and Univision both rated a 0.3/1, and the CW rated a 0.2/1, with Batwoman and Supergirl retaining a 0.3 and 0.2, respectively.
