Pai-Trump Meeting Target Of FOIA request

Citing the Freedom of Information Act, the Electronic Privacy Information Center is asking for details on the March 6 meeting between FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and President Trump. A quick response is merited, it says.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center has asked the FCC for all records regarding FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s meeting with President Trump on March 6, the day before Trump nominated Pai for a second FCC term.

The request was made under the Freedom of Information Act.

EPIC asked for expedited action, arguing that meetings between the president and heads of federal agencies are “extremely significant” and so it is urgent to inform the public of what happened during the Pai-Trump meeting.

“President Trump has described the media as “enemies of the people,” the FOIA request says. “Many of these same media organizations have business before the FCC.

“Unless this request is processed expeditiously, these organizations would be deprived of information necessary to fully represent the First Amendment interests of the media and the American public in these matters.”

EPIC also said it is interested because of the FCC’s March 1 decision to suspend parts of the rules that regulate consumer data collected by broadband access providers like cable operators.
