WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Phil,’ ‘Steve,’ ‘Wendy’ Among Talk Stars

For the week ending Sept. 22, many chat shows posted week-to-week or year-to-year gains. Other strong performers included Judge Judy and freshman Queen Latifah.

Talk shows were the star performers in the week ending Sept. 22, especially Steve Harvey, which opened its second season with a 33% ratings improvement over its premiere week in 2012, a 39% —600,000-person — increase in total viewers and its strongest performance in four months.

Wendy Williams also got off a strong start, beginning its fifth season up 30% from its fourth season opener.

Talk leader Dr. Phil rose to its highest rating since the May sweep, while Live with Kelly and Michael, the No. 2 talker, increased 4% over last year.

Other yakkers moving up week to week included Dr. Oz, which hit an eight-week high; Maury, which clocked its best numbers since mid-July; Rachael Ray; Jerry Springer; and Trisha, the last of which saw its numbers for its year-two jump 25% from season one.

Elsewhere in daytime, top gaveler Judge Judy led all of first-run syndication for the 21st week in a row and grew 6% from last year. In addition, Judy was easily the highest-rated syndication series overall.

Among the daytime newcomers, Queen Latifah was the season’s No.1 new talker, scoring a 1.4 for its premiere week, which was the second-biggest talk show debut since Dr. Oz’s opening week in 2009.

BRAND CONNECTIONS
