WEEKLY SYNDICATION RATINGS ROUNDUP

‘Phil’ Tops In Talk Again, ‘Judy’ Rules Overall

Despite being in reruns on all five days, Phil clocked its biggest rating since June in the week ending Sept. 3, a 3.0 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen, up 3% from the week before.

The session ending Sept. 3 was another big one for Dr. Phil, which grew 30% from last year and easily topped the talk shows for the 52nd week in a row, or every week in the past year.

Despite being in reruns on all five days, Phil clocked its biggest rating since June, a 3.0 live-plus-same-day national Nielsen, up 3% from the week before.

The other talkers were flat to down in the nationals.

Second-place Live with Kelly and Ryan aired mostly repeats and repackaged shows, but still held steady at a 1.9. Further back, Ellen DeGeneres fell 12% to a 1.5, matching its season low.

In metered market action, week one of Steve, the new version of Steve Harvey’s popular talk show, grew 9% in households, while women 25-54 jumped 25% over its prior full-week averages.

Among its best large-market performances, Steve scored a 1.8 rating/6 share, spiking 125% over its lead-in in San Diego and doubling what the old Steve Harvey did in the same time period last year.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

The season 3 premiere of Crime Watch Daily on Sept. 11 was a big one in top market New York where it jumped 120% from its lead-in and improved its year-ago time period by 83% to a 1.14 on WPIX.

Also closely followed was the Sept. 12 second-season premiere of Harry Connick Jr.’s Harry, which rose 14% from its four-week average to a 0.8/3 and was No. 1 in its time period in markets like Cincinnati where it earned 3.0/8 at 9 a.m., up 30% from its lead-in and up 50% from last year.

Returning to the national ratings, only two of the magazines moved up in the frame leading into the long Labor Day weekend — Access Hollywood, which raced to a 10-week high 1.3, improving 8%, and TMZ, which also rose 8%, landing at a 1.4.

Entertainment Tonight led the category with a steady 2.8.

At the top of the ratings leader board, Judge Judy, with 9.4 million viewers each day, tallied a 6.6 rating and presided over all of syndication for the 12th time in 13 weeks (with two ties).

The week’s top-rated daytime talk shows in the women 25-54 demo were:

  • Dr. Phil (1.2, +9% from the week before)
  • Live with Kelly and Ryan (0.9, unchanged)
  • Maury (0.8, unchanged)
  • Ellen DeGeneres (0.7, -13%), tied with Wendy Williams (0.7, unchanged) and Steve Wilkos (0.7, unchanged)
