Phyllis Schwartz New WFLD News Director

The veteran Chicago journalist is tapped to succeed Carol Fowler as head of news at Fox’s Chicago O&O.

Phyllis Schwartz today was named VP-news director of Fox O&O WFLD Chicago (DMA 3). She replaces Carol Fowler, who the station said is leaving the station “to pursue other opportunities.” A station spokesperson said: “Fox Chicago appreciates all of Carol’s hard work and dedication during her time with the station.”

Schwartz returns to Chicago, where she worked for nearly 15 years in various news management roles. She spent 13 years at ABC-owned WLS in several positions, including news director for five years.

Prior to that, Schwartz was the assistant news director at CBS O&O WBBM. She also worked at NBC’s WMAQ for two years as VP of news and creative services.

Later in her career, Schwartz was EVP of news, promotion and original content for the NBC Universal Local Stations division and also was president-GM of KNSD San Diego.

She began her career in news as a newscast producer for KFMB San Diego. Most recently, Schwartz was president of Phyllis Schwartz Solutions, a consulting and programming/content development company.

Schwartz holds a Bachelor of Arts in radio/TV journalism from San Diego State University.
