PPI’s ‘Electric Playground’ Set For Fall Launch

The weekly entertainment news half-hour has been cleared in more than 75% of U.S.

PPI Releasing announced that the weekly entertainment news program, The Electric Playground, is set to launch in September and has been cleared in 75% of U.S., including WABC New York; KABC Los Angeles; WCIU Chicago; WFAA Dallas;  KGO San Francisco; WCVB Boston; KING Seattle; KSTP Minneapolis; KNXV Phoenix and KXTV Sacramento, Calif. Stations from groups including ABC O&Os, Scripps, Belo, Gannett, Hubbard, Newport and Journal have also cleared the series for 2011-12.

PPI first introduced the series as The Electric Playground Buying Guides, consisting of four quarterly one-hour programs beginning in the fourth quarter of 2010 and plans to expand the offering to a Monday through Friday day and date strip in fall 2012. The Electric Playground weekly can be aired as a one-hour program or as two weekly half-hours.

The Electric Playground covers popular culture including movies, TV, videogames, music, comics, collectibles, gadgets, mobile apps and devices. EP is executive produced by host, Victor Lucas, and Emmy Award-winning Greedy Productions, program supplier to Discovery, G4, Disney, Citytv, Turner, Rogers, SCI FI Australia and broadcasters around the world. Current hosts and correspondents include Scott Jones, Briana McIvor, Jose Sanchez, Miri Jedeikin and Shaun Hatton, from studios in Vancouver and bureaus in Toronto, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Greedy Productions has a multi-year contract with Rogers Media to produce both daily and weekly versions of The Electric Playground as well as Reviews on the Run, a daily companion show to EP with up-to-the-minute movie, videogame, app, tech and gadget reviews. PPI Releasing is offering both series as a Monday through Friday strip to cable in 2011 and broadcast in 2012.
