Queen Latifah Getting Daytime Talker

Flavor Unit Entertainment and Overbrook Entertainment to team up with Sony Pictures Television to develop a syndicated vehicle that would debut in fall 2013.

Overbrook Entertainment and Flavor Unit Entertainment announced today that they will be partnering with Sony Pictures Television to produce a new daytime syndicated talk show with Queen Latifah as host. The show is being developed for fall 2013.

The deal was driven by Shakim Compere, co-founder of Flavor Unit Entertainment and Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez. Both men will serve as executive producers along with Flavor Unit Entertainment co-founder, Queen Latifah and Overbrook Entertainment’s James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

“We’ve had a long and successful history both personally and professionally with Overbrook’s Miguel, JL, Jada and Will. We share a common vision and have been wanting to collaborate for quite some time. The talk show is the perfect project to work on together,” Compere says.

Flavor Unit Entertainment is owned and operated by Shakim Compere and Queen Latifah. They have served as producers on movies including Paramount’s The Perfect Holiday, Disney’s Bringing Down the House, MGM’s Beauty Shop and Fox Searchlight’s Just Wright. Coming up next they have Warner Bros.’ Joyful Noise starring Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton.

On the small screen they produced Life Support, for which Queen Latifah won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and they currently produce BET’s Lets Stay Together and VH-1’s Single Ladies.

When you don’t succeed, throw more money and bigger names behind the talent.

Here we go again. Can someone come up with a NEW concept for once? Another .6 rated talk show with recycled talent. Let’s bring Chevy Chase back too!

not much to add to the above comments. It’s really bad when Chevy Chase gets in the conversation.

Chevy Chase is quite busy on a very good comedy series right now . . . oh, you guys are talking about his ill-fated talk show run, not his current scene-stealing run. Okay . . . Wake me when it’s not 1992. But seriously, what’s up with TV recycling everything. Shows are coming back out the blue (Hawaii Five-0 is decent, Dallas is coming back as are Fear Factor, In Living Color, and Beauty and the Beast, among many others). Originality is a rare element.
