Ramey To Lead Weigel’s South Bend News

Aaron Ramey will oversee the launch of a multiplatform news department for Weigel Broadcasting Co.'s WBND (ABC), WCWW-LP (CW) and WMYS-LP (MNT).

Weigel Broadcasting Co. has hired veteran news manager Aaron Ramey to lead the company’s soon-to-launch news department in South Bend, Ind. (DMA 91).

Ramey began work on Monday, Nov. 8, and will lead the development of news content and other programming for WBND (ABC), WCWW-LP (CW) and WMYS-LP (MNT).

The news operation will significantly increase Weigel Broadcasting Co.’s local presence in the market. Ramey’s hire is the first of more than 30 for the Weigel’s launch of the South Bend news operation, which will deliver news across multimedia platforms. The company said it plans “aggressive coverage of local and regional news as well as coverage of the vital national stories told from a local perspective.”

“Aaron’s experience and leadership style dovetail with the vision we have for our news operation. He has an impressive track record in the industry. We’re confident that such an accomplished journalist and manager will build an operation that will be a market leader in news,” said Jeff Guy, GM of the South Bend stations.

Ramey was most recently the strategy consultant at KLFY Lafayette, La., after having been news director in San Antonio at WOAI. Prior to his move to Texas, he was the executive news director at WHAS Louisville, Ky.

He spent three years as news director at WATE Knoxville, Tenn., and two years as assistant news director at WFTV Orlando, Fla. Earlier in his career, Ramey held the executive producer position at both WPXI Pittsburgh and WHIO Dayton, Ohio.
