The station group and and satellite operator agreed to a 48-extension of their current deal, which was set to expire last night, suggesting that they are close to long-term deal.
Raycom, DirecTV Still Talking Retrans
In a move that could suggest the companies are close to reaching an agreement, Raycom Media and AT&T’s DirecTV DBS service reached a 48-hour extension of their retransmission consent agreement.
The latest extension between Raycom and DirecTV has been slated to expire last night. But in a notice posted on it stations’ websites, Raycom told its viewers an extension had been reached until tomorrow night.
Companies generally reach such short-term extensions when they are nearing an agreement, though it does not absolutely mean they will announce a new retrans deal by tomorrow night. Raycom operates 54 TV stations in 44 markets, including Cleveland; Charlotte; New Orleans; Birmingham, Ala.; Cincinnati; Sarasota, Fla.; West Palm Beach; and Louisville.
Meanwhile, the latest retransmission consent agreement extension between Dish Network and Citadel Communications is scheduled to expire tonight. Citadel owns the ABC affiliates in Providence, Rhode Island, and Lincoln, Neb.
