Recognizing Up-And-Coming Tech Trendsetters

Tania Paz, VP of digital media operations and technology at Telemundo Networks; and Ann Marie Rohaly, director of accessibility, policy and standards for Microsoft’s Corporate Accessibility Group, have been named TVNewsCheck’s 2014 Technology Women to Watch.

Paz and Rohaly will be honored during the same ceremony and reception that will see Renu Thomas, SVP of technology and operations at Disney ABC Networks Group, receiving TVNewsCheck’s 2014 Women in Technology Leadership Award. The ceremony and reception will take place at 6 p.m. on April 8 in Room N-115 of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The annual Technology Women to Watch Awards recognize female engineers who show potential for making significant contributions to the advancement of their industry in television, online and radio technology.

Paz, a 17-year Telemundo veteran, oversees design, technical development, product management and operations for all digital operations including Telemundo.com, video distribution, mobile and emerging platforms.

She has led the teams responsible for working on the launches of several local sites, as well as overseeing the blueprint for the original Telemundo.com. In 2008, she launched the digital design team to develop the look and feel for Telemundo’s websites, resulting in new platforms and screens.

Paz graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with a degree in business administration and attended Florida International University’s College of Business Administration. She received her digital certification from New Horizons of South Florida.

Rohaly, director of accessibility policy and standards for Microsoft’s Corporate Accessibility Group, specializes in entertainment products and services. Before joining Microsoft in 2003, she spent five years at Tektronix Inc. where she served in many positions, including manager for the Video Products line.

Rohaly has also held leadership positions in numerous standard-setting organizations and industry consortia, and is recognized internationally as a technical expert.

In 2010, she was appointed to the FCC’s Video Programming Advisory Committee, which issued a report on closed-captioning Internet-delivered video. Rohaly holds a B.E.S. in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. and M.S.E in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
