DMA 4 (PHILADELPHIA)

Reporter Lauren Mayk Joining WCAU Philadelphia

NBC-owned WCAU Philadelphia (DMA 4) today hired Lauren Mayk as a general assignment reporter starting Aug. 24. Mayk comes to NBC10 from WFLA, the NBC affiliate in Tampa, Fla.

Mayk, who was born in Philadelphia when her father, Richard Mayk, worked for both WCAU-AM and WCAU- in the late 1960s and ’70s, has been a television and print reporter for more than 15 years. For the last five years, she was a political, consumer and general assignment reporter as well as Sunday morning anchor and public affairs show host at WFLA.

Before that, Mayk was an anchor, reporter and executive producer at SNN Local News 6, the cable news channel in Sarasota, Fla., for almost four years. She was also a business reporter at the Sarasota Herald Tribune, where she covered the retail, telecom and energy industries.

Before moving to Florida, Mayk was a correspondent in the South Jersey bureau of The Philadelphia Inquirer. She started her career in local television as a part-time news writer at WTXF, the Fox affiliate in Philadelphia.

Mayk was named “Best of the Bay Area: TV Political Reporter” by Tampa’s Creative Loafing newspaper in 2014. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
