Richard Dyer Named President-GM Of WUSA

The head of WLWT Cincinnati is tapped by Tegna to lead its CBS affiliate in Washington. His resume includes an earlier stint at WUSA as VP-station manager.

Tegna today named Richard J. Dyer president and general manager of its CBS affiliate WUSA Washington (DMA 7), effective Jan. 2, 2017. He will succeed Mark Burdett who was named GM in 2012 and will be leaving at the end of the year.

Dyer, who is from Washington, joins the station from WLWT Cincinnati where he was president-GM. In 2015, Dyer was recognized as one of Cincinnati’s Men of Honor, an award that highlights the achievements of African-American men in the community.

Before WLWT, Dyer also held the position of president-GM at KETV Omaha, Neb.

Before joining WLWT and KETV, Dyer served as corporate vice president of television sales within Tegna Media. Previously, he served in various roles within Tegna Media stations including WUSA, where he held several positions such as VP and station manager, and at KSDK St. Louis, where he was VP of broadcast.

Dyer holds a master’s degree in marketing from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in economics and communications from Boston College.
