Ron Romines Named GM Of WTEN Albany

Media General promotes the ABC affiliate’s general sales manager to the top spot as successor to Andy Alford who has moved to Media General’s WFLA Tampa.

Media General has promoted Ron Romines from general sales manager to vice president and general manager of its ABC affiliate WTEN Albany, N.Y. (DMA 58). He succeeds Andy Alford, who is now VP-GM of WFLA, Media General’s NBC affiliate in Tampa, Fla., and also Media General’s VP-sales.

“We are delighted to name such a talented and experienced broadcaster as Ron to be our new General Manager at WTEN,” said Deborah A. McDermott, SVP-broadcast markets for Media General. “Ron has been instrumental in driving significant revenue growth for us in the Albany market. He is a true broadcast professional, who has interacted with every department at the station to improve performance. I am confident that Ron is the right leader for WTEN and that he will help us achieve continued growth in ratings and revenue.”

Romines served as GSM since 2005. WTEN maintains shared services and joint sales agreements with Shield Media, the owner of WXXA, the Fox affiliate in Albany.

Romines started his career as an account executive in Jackson, Miss., first at WDBD and later at WAPT, where he was local sales manager and then general sales manager. He additionally has held general sales manager positions at KOCO Oklahoma City; WCCO Minneapolis; and WJTV Jackson, Miss.

He received B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Mississippi College and also completed the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Training Program.

Well earned promotion. Albany is on the cusp of some strong growth from micro chips to poker chips.

He will keep these facilities humming like a top !!!! Sweet !
