Schurz Names Mike Scott Group PD

Beginning March 31, the retiring GM of KYTV Springfield, Mo., will become a programming consultant for all the group owner's stations

Schurz Communications Inc. announced today that on March 31, Mike Scott, the retiring president-GM of its NBC affiliate KYTV Springfield, Mo. (DMA 74), will take on a new consulting role as director of programming the parent company.

Scott announced his retirement on Jan. 4. “I have been proud to call this home for the past 21 years and I have especially enjoyed the last 15 years as president-general manager. I have always felt I have had the best job in town because of the people I have represented during my tenure at KY3 Inc.,” Scott said in his letter to the staff.

Schurz said it hasn’t yet decided on a successor to Scott at KYTV.

Scott joined KYTV as an account executive in January 1990 and became local sales manager later that year.  In 1991 he was elevated to general sales manager and in 1996 was made president and general manager.

“Mike Scott will leave KY3 as one of the longest serving and most successful general managers in the station’s 57 year history.” said Schurz Communications SVP Marci Burdick.

Burdick announced that she has asked Scott to accept a new consulting role as Schurz’ director of programming,  where he will guide decision making on programming for SCI television stations and represent SCI with syndication companies.  He will also work with station general managers on local programming strategy.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

“I am excited to start the next chapter of my life that will grant me the opportunity to seek new challenges,” Scott wrote to his staff.
