Scripps Hires Darryll Green As WFTX GM

The former GM of WUSA Washington and radio executive is tapped to lead the Fox affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla.

Darryll Green, a media executive with large-market television broadcasting experience, is the new vice president and general manager for WFTX, the Fox affiliate owned by the E.W. Scripps Co. in Fort Myers, Fla. (DMA 61), effective Aug. 14.

Green’s background includes a mix of television and radio, operations and management. He recently completed the Broadcast Leadership Training program created by the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation.

Green is coming to Scripps from Urban Radio Broadcasting, where he was the market president responsible for six radio stations. Before that, he was the VP-COO, focusing on the 16-station radio group, budgets and strategic planning.

From 2003 to 2007, he was president and general manager of WUSA Washington. He managed a team of more than 200 people along with new branding and the launch of the first 7 p.m. newscast in the market.

Green was the president-GM of WGRZ Buffalo, N.Y., from 1997 to 2003. His leadership resulted in ratings success, expanded news coverage and the station’s first website.

From 1985 to 1997, Green’s list of professional accomplishments started to take shape as he rose from controller to general manager of WGCI-AM-FM Chicago.
