Senators Seek Live TV Of Health Care Ruling

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy and ranking Republican Charles Grassley are asking the Supreme Court to allow live television coverage when it delivers its ruling on President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee are asking the Supreme Court to allow live television coverage when it delivers its ruling on President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

Chairman Patrick Leahy and ranking Republican Charles Grassley said the issues in the case are as important and consequential as any in recent court history.

In a letter to Chief Justice John Roberts, the senators said the court should be aware of the great interest Americans have in the outcome of the case. They also noted that millions of citizens would be able to view what only a few could see from the court’s limited public seating.

News organizations already have asked the court to allow cameras in the courtroom for the decision.

C’mon. We have enough Live Reality crap in our lives. Its a Supreme Court decision, and as popular as wondering what the outcome is, this is NOT to Super Bowl!! When I was in high school, I remember when the Top Ten most often stated American Institutions were The Supreme Court #1. Today it probably would rank below the Top Ten; Today’s Top Three are probably 1) Reality TV, 2) Show Business/Hollywood, and 3) War on Terror. For God’s sake, is there NO decorum left in this nation?

What would anyone expect to learn from television of the announcement that they would not learn from a news report? The text of the decision is what is important and what will be historic, not the facial expressions of justices.
