Sesame Workshop Names New Chief

10:28 a.m. | Updated Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit group that produces “Sesame Street” and other educational media for children, said Monday that it had named H. Melvin Ming its chief executive, replacing Gary E. Knell, who was named the chief executive of NPR on Sunday.

Mr. Ming has worked for Sesame Workshop since 1999, when he was named chief financial officer. He has been the chief operating officer since 2002.

“Mel is a tireless champion of our work here and around the world and he will continue to bring his passion and leadership to his new role,” said Vincent Mai, the chairman of  Sesame Workshop, in a statement. “Over the past 12 years, Mel has been a great partner to Gary Knell and we are fortunate to have him step into the role of C.E.O.”
