Shevlin Named EP Of ‘CBS Evening News’

The executive producer of the CBS Evening News, Weekend Editions will head up the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley when that broadcast debuts on June 6.

Patricia Shevlin has been named executive producer of the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, it was announced Wednesday by CBS News President David Rhodes. The appointment is effective June 6, the first day of the broadcast.

“Pat has a wealth of experience and has shown tremendous dedication to CBS News,” said Rhodes. “I know she will inspire the team that puts together Scott’s broadcast each day. We’re looking forward to making the Evening News more competitive than ever.”

Shevlin has been the executive producer of the CBS Evening News, Weekend Editions since January 2000. She joined CBS News in 1973 and has filled a variety of positions during her tenure.

From 1975 to 1982, she was associate producer for several CBS News broadcasts, including In the News. In 1982, she joined the CBS Morning News, filling a number of roles including broadcast producer.  From 1989 to 1991, she was a producer of the CBS Evening News.

Following a one-year turn as senior producer for CBS This Morning, she became a producer for CBS Evening News. She served in that role for three years before being elevated in January 1995 to the position of senior producer for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, where she oversaw both the foreign and medical beats.

Shevlin has received eight Emmy awards for her work on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and the CBS Evening News, Weekend Editions. Under her leadership, the CBS Evening News, Weekend Editions won two Sigma Delta Chi awards, an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia award, a Gracie award and two Edward R. Murrow awards, among others.
