Sinclair Names New GMs in Raleigh and Flint

John Hummel is tapped to run the Raleigh, N.C., duopoly of WLFL-WRDC. He’s succeeded at WSMH Flint, Mich., by Chad Conklin.

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. named John Hummel named general manager of WLFL (CW) and WRDC (MNT) in Raleigh, N.C. (DMA 25). Hummel, currently GM of Sinclair’s WSMH Flint, Mich. (DMA 69), will be succeeded at the Fox affiliate by Chad Conklin.

The announcement was made by Steve Marks, COO of Sinclair’s television group.

Hummel has more than 20 years in television sales and management. He’s been GM of WSMH since. Prior to that, he spent two years in the restaurant business. From 2001 to 2005, Hummel was general sales manager for the Fox owned/operated television stations.

From 1997 to 2001, he was SVP and director of sales for Petry Media’s Fox stations. From 1996 to 1997, Hummel was the general sales manager of WUHF Rochester, N.Y., now owned by Sinclair. From 1992 to 1996, he was director of sales and operations for Tribune Plus and prior to that held various positions within the Tribune organization.

Hummel started his broadcast career with the national rep firm, Petry Television. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s of the Plains College.

Conklin has spent the last 11 years with WSMH, serving as general sales manager since 2008. Prior to that and from 2005, he was the station’s local sales manager and from 2004 to 2005, the national sales manager.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Conklin began his career at the station in 2000 as an account executive. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business with an emphasis in marketing from Mount Mercy College.
