Snell Names Robert Rowe CTO

Snell has appointed Robert Rowe to chief technology officer. Rowe, a 15-year veteran of the global telecommunications and satellite industries, will assume responsibility for both engineering implementation and technology strategy for Snell’s entire systems, product, and technology portfolio and will be responsible for managing the development life cycle to ensure timely and competitive customer solutions. Rowe will report directly to Simon Derry, Snell CEO.

“We could not be more pleased that Rob has joined us in such a critical role. He has shown true entrepreneurial leadership capabilities in both large and small organizations, and he is a true innovator in technical disciplines whilst having a strong grasp of commercial and operational areas,” said Derry. “In particular, Rob’s deep experience with startups will bring a fresh approach to our ongoing efforts to deliver best-of-breed products in a challenging and ever-changing marketplace.”

Just prior to joining Snell, Rowe was an independent consultant to Cambridge Silicon Radio, where he was involved in its acquisition of SiRF. Previously, Rowe was an internal consultant for Cambridge Silicon Radio and was also CTO for Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd, for seven years.

Other prior positions include VP of network design and technology for Aerial Communications, technical director for AirTouch PCS, and technical director of Telesis Technologies Laboratory. He was also instrumental in launching the U.K. presence of Orange, the fifth-largest telecom operator in the world.

Rowe holds a master’s degree in engineering communications (first class honors) from the University of London.
