Springfield Stations Raise $338,000 To Help Joplin

Schurz Communications’ owned Springfield, Mo. Owned and operated stations KYTV, KSPR and The Ozarks CW joined together along with Bass Pro Shops on Thursday, June 2 to raise funds for their Joplin neighbors by hosting a cookout and concert on the parking lot of Bass Pro Shops in Springfield.

“Join in for Joplin” benefited locally-based international relief organization, Convoy of Hope and raised $338,495 to support the people of Joplin following the largest single tornado in United States’ history that destroyed nearly 30% of the town.

Thousands of Ozarkers attended the all day event that featured food donated by local vendors, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Johnsonville, Harter House, Hiland Dairy and Ozarks Coca-Cola/ Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. Local bands performed throughout the day and Nashville stars John Anderson, Tracey Lawrence and JoDee Messina ended the evening with performances of some of their greatest hits. In addition, NASCAR drivers including Jamie McMurray, Clint Boyer and more made appearances and signed autographs to help raise funds.

“Our community was very generous in their support for our neighbors in Joplin,” said the stations’ President-GM Brian McDonough.

Convoy of Hope is a faith-based organization with a driving passion to feed the world through children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, disaster response and partner resourcing.
