Steve Weinstein Named WEWS VP-GM

E.W. Scripps chooses the GM of its Bakersfield, Calif., duopoly to succeed Sam Rosenwasser as head of its Cleveland ABC outlet. He succeeds Sam Rosenwasser who left the station on Dec. 15, 2014.

The E.W. Scripps Co. on Monday named Steve Weinstein vice president and general manager of its ABC affiliate WEWS Cleveland (DMA 19), effective Jan. 12. He succeeds Sam Rosenwasser who left the station on Dec. 15, 2014.

His career Scripps started more than a decade ago — first with WMAR Baltimore, then as news director with KJRH Tulsa, Okla., and most recently as general manager of KERO-KZKC Bakersfield, Calif.

Since 2012, he has been instrumental in driving new technology and innovative newsgathering tools for the audience in Bakersfield. He added newscasts including the city’s only weekend morning news. He partnered with Arizona State University’s Cronkite School of Journalism for a Journalism Career Program to give young journalists their first chance at a career with high growth potential through the Scripps enterprise. In 2014, St. Jude Research Hospital named KERO its TV Station of the Year.

Weinstein was news director at KJRH from 2006 to 2012. He spent nearly three years as news operations manager at WMAR. Prior to that, he was an award-winning news photographer earning six regional Emmy awards and the AP Photographer of the Year honor for the Chesapeake region in 1998. Weinstein graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in telecommunication and a minor in business.
