Ted Fortenberry Named GM OF WLBT

Raycom is moving the GM of its WMBF Myrtle Beach, S.C., to succeed the retiring Dan Modisett at the helm of its Jackson, Miss., NBC affil beginning in January.

Ted Fortenberry today was promoted to VP-GM of Raycom Media owned NBC affiliate WLBT Jackson, Miss. (DMA 94), effective January 2015. Fortenberry will replace longtime WLBT VP-GM Dan Modisett who is retiring at the end of the year.

“While we will sorely miss Dan Modisett at WLBT, we are very pleased to have a native Mississippian returning home to manage a great station and our digital media assets in Jackson,” said Pat LaPlatney, SVP Raycom Media. “Ted has done a terrific job building a very strong news, sales, digital and marketing presence at WMBF in Myrtle Beach, S.C.” 

Fortenberry has been the VP-GM of WMBF since 2007. Prior to that he was VP-GM of KAIT Jonesboro, Ark.

Fortenberry started his broadcasting career in 1982 in his hometown of Tylertown, Miss. at WTYL radio. He worked for WDAM-TV, Hattiesburg, Miss., and WLOX-TV, Biloxi, Miss. He also spent several years in Jackson, Miss., as an account executive and national sales manager with Love Communications.

He is a graduate of Southwest Mississippi Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a B.S. in radio, television and film.
