Te’o Interview Sets Ratings Record for ‘Katie’

Katie Couric’s Thursday talk with the Notre Dame football star sent the freshman syndie's metered market household ratings up 30% from its past four-week average to a 2.6/7.

Katie Couric’s exclusive interview Thursday with Manti Te’o, the Notre Dame football star at the center of the online hoax involving his nonexistent girlfriend, was the show’s most-watched telecast ever.

The show drew an estimated 3.5 million viewers, according to early projections, which easily topped the old record of approximately 3 million set exactly two weeks ago for a show on medical mysteries.

Metered market household ratings for the interview jumped 30% from what the show had been averaging over the past four weeks to a 2.6 rating/7 share for its primary runs.

Katie was No. 1 in its time period in all of the top four markets Thursday and did best in Sacramento, Calif., where it averaged a first-place 4.7/13 on KCRA at 3 p.m., and Indianapolis, where it scored a 4.5/10 and won its time slot on WRTV at 3 p.m.
