‘The Real’ To Roll Out On Fox O&Os Next Fall

Fox's decision follows a four-week test this summer and clears the way for the show's national syndication by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The Real is being sold for two years on a cash-plus-barter basis (four national minutes, 11 local minutes).

After a successful four-week test in seven markets over the summer, Fox Television Stations said today it will launch Telepictures’ The Real on its 18 O&Os next fall. The one-hour panel show is also getting a simultaneous run on BET.

Fox’s decision clears the way for the show’s national syndication by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

The Real is being sold for two years on a cash-plus-barter basis (four national minutes, 11 local minutes).

“There’s a new generation of TV viewers that is being serviced by new entrants and cable networks,” says Ken Werner, president of Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. “We are very focused on the importance and relevancy of TV stations. First-run syndication is one of the ways they can distinguish themselves.”

The panel comprises five women — Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley.

SallyAnn Salsano is the executive producer.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

“We are selling the show based on the performance of these women,” Werner says. “The magic is in that combination. We are producing it exactly the same way. We think we’ve got this figured out.”

Werner says the show appeals to a new generation of daytime TV viewers who are younger than Baby Boomers and more ethnically diverse.

The show was tested on the Fox stations in New York (WNYW), Los Angeles (KTTV), Washington (WTTG), Philadelphia (WTXF), Phoenix (KSAZ), Houston (KRIV) and Tampa, Fla. (WTVT).

In its test, The Real averaged a 1.1 household rating and 4 share, up 57% from its year-ago time slots and up 22% from its lead-in, based on Nielsen data.

Among women 18-49 and women 25-54, it had a 0.9/6 and a 1.0/7, up 200% and 150% from a year ago, respectively.

The Real is just the latest Warner Bros. show that Fox is airing. TMZ Live was just renewed by Fox for three seasons through 2016-17. And Fox is the launch group for Warner Bros. rookie talk show Bethenny from executive producer Ellen DeGeneres.

The Real will originate from Los Angeles.
