Titan, Patrick Have Stakes In KCNS, WMFP

NRJ TV LLC, the outfit that bought two former Multicultural Television Broadcasting stations, KCNS San Francisco and WMFP Boston, from a trustee, unveiled its full ownership in an FCC filing seeking approval of the deal.

Through layers of companies, NRJ TV is owned equally (33.3% each) by 1) Ted Bartley and family; 2) Titan Broadcast Management, headed by Bert Ellis and Dan Sullivan; and 3) Larry Patrick and his wife, Susan, the filing says.

Bartley is managing partner of NRJ TV. According to a Bob Andrews, a rep for the company, Bartley owns no other broadcast stations, but he has been involved in broadcasting for a long time, “originating and managing broadcast investments for various institutions.” He declined to elaborate.

Titan Broadcast Management, which owns and manages TV stations, currently manages KCNS and WMFP under contract with the trustee. It will continue to manage them as part owner of NRJ TV.

The stations are independent — KCNS airs ethnic and paid programming, while WMFP is the local outlet for RTN, a network offering classic TV shows.

Larry Patrick is a broadcast station broker and investor.

As TVNewsCheck reported when the deal was announced Monday, NRJ TV is paying $20 million for the two stations — $15 million for KCNS and $5 million for WMFP.

The seller of the stations is Multicultural Capital Trust, headed by Lee Shubert. MCT was set up by the stations’ creditors after Arthur Liu defaulted on the loans he used to buy KCNS and WMFP and three other stations from E.W. Scripps in 2007 for $170 million.

The trust earlier sold WRAY Raleigh-Durham, N.C., and WOAC Cleveland to Radiant Life Ministries. Pending FCC approval, the trust is acquiring the fifth Multicultural station, WSAH New York (Bridgeport, Conn.) with the intention of selling it, too.
