Tribune Names Chris Wayland Operations VP

The former Sunbeam executive will work with Greg Easterly, Tribune Broadcasting’s SVP/group operations. Wayland ran all three Sunbeam stations, including WHDH Boston, which is expected to lose its NBC affiliation at the end of the year.

 

Tribune Broadcasting today appointed Chris Wayland vice president/group operations. Wayland joins Tribune Broadcasting on Sept. 19, reporting to Larry Wert, president, broadcast media and Kathy Clements, SVP-COO, and will work alongside Greg Easterly, SVP/group operations.

Since 2007, Wayland has served in several executive management roles for Sunbeam Television where he was most recently EVP and GM of WSVN Miami, WHDH Boston and WLVI Boston, overseeing strategy for the three stations. NBC has notified WHDH that it is yanking its affiliation at the end of this year.

He previously was GM and general sales manager for the stations, where under his guidance, the station’s profits consistently grew year over year and ratings increased, with the station’s newscasts growing to No. 1 and No. 2 positions in key demographics across all dayparts, according to Tribune.

Prior to his post at Sunbeam, Wayland was director of sales for Comcast Spotlight where he maximized inventory and increased revenue by 15%. Wayland has also held sales leadership positions in Boston at WHDH, FOX Sports Net and WLVI.
