The TV news and digital veteran will oversee strategy, business development and operational execution for the station group.

Tribune Broadcasting today appointed Kerry Oslund VP of strategy and business development. Oslund will be responsible for strategy, business development and operational execution. Oslund will join the company on July 25, reporting to Larry Wert, president/broadcast media.

Oslund most recently was SVP of publishing and emerging media for Schurz Communications where he led the company’s M&A and strategic partnership divisions.

“Kerry has both the vision and the operational experience to help Tribune Broadcasting redefine how we serve our audiences and customers,” said Wert. “He is an innovative leader with a record of success in both linear and digital media and we look forward to having his expertise shape our role in the future of television.”

Prior to joining Schurz, Oslund was VP of new media for Gannett Broadcasting where he focused on new opportunities in information delivery and business development on emerging platforms. He was also the digital liaison between Gannett Broadcasting, USA Today, Gannett US-Community Publishing, Legal and M&A.

Before joining Gannett’s corporate team in 2002, he served as that company’s news director at WXIA Atlanta. Prior to that, Oslund was corporate news director for Lee Enterprises, with oversight responsibilities for seven network affiliates, as well as news director responsibilities for Lee’s flagship, KOIN Portland, Ore.

Oslund also worked in Los Angeles as an executive producer for the Walt Disney Co. and helped create, then supervise, KCAL Los Angeles’ Prime 9 News. He has also held producer and executive producer assignments for Gannett in Atlanta.
