Tribune’s Seattle, Portland TVs Get Digital Director

Tribune-owned KCPQ (Fox) KZJO (MNT) Seattle (DMA 14) and CW affil KRCW Portland, Ore. (DMA 24) announced Thursday  that Travis Mayfield has been named director of digital strategy.

In this newly created role, Mayfield will oversee the stations’ digital departments of all three stations. Mayfield, who was previously the stations’ director of audience engagement, will report to Pam Pearson, SVP-GM of the three.

“Under Travis’ guidance [KCPQ]’s website saw 200%-300% year-over-year growth in all key digital metrics in the first year.  In the second year the website saw more than 100% growth year over year in the same metrics. He has also helped to build the digital and social multiplatform strategy and as such, [KCPQ’s] social audience has tripled,” said Pearson. “We look forward to continued growth for the stations.”

Mayfield also serves a unique on-air role for KCPQ’s weekday Fox News This Morning, spotting digital and social trends and sharing that content with viewers.  He will continue to serve as the on-air face of the station’s digital and social brands to viewers across Western Washington.

Mayfield joined Tribune in February of 2014 from Fisher Communications where he was director of digital and social strategy. He has also been a reporter for KOMO Seattle, KXLY Spokane, KNDOYakima and has freelanced for networks included HLN and ABC News Radio.

His work has been recognized with multiple Excellence in Journalism Awards by the Society of Professional Journalists and he also was honored by The Associated Press.
